ALPA Academy Masterclass workshop
“on photography”

What is photography? In the words of the photographer Esther May Campbell: “it is the exploration of the relationship between image-making, storytelling and play and becoming a resilient human being, connected to the world around us.”

Henri Cartier-Bresson once said: “it is an illusion that photos are made with the camera… they are made with the eye, heart, and the mind”, while in Tibetan, the word for the heart and the mind is the same: སེམས་བཟང། . Photographs are, therefore, made by seeing with the heart/mind.

Our ALPA Academy Masterclass workshops are titled: “On Photography”, and are focused on what makes the heart/mind align with the eye at a certain moment – what is it about this moment when something catches the photographer’s corner of the eye and makes them raise a camera, while nothing else in the universe exists at that moment and connects us to the world around us. And how this moment may last a very long time. In addition, we explore our significance of “your camera, tell the truth to it, always”, a phrase which emerged to us during our journey and why the energy of that mindset is one of the most important things in photography. Other aspects of photographic arts of interest to participants are discussed.

The ALPA Academy masterclass workshop is offered on an individualised basis of up to four people, over two days.

There are no set schedules for workshops, as they are run on an individualised basis. This often means 1 on 1, just the participant and myself, over two days. To make an appointment, please contact me.
